Marta Rivera Diaz is a formally trained chef with over 25 years of cooking and baking experience. Marta owned and operated a catering and cake-decorating business for more than ten years before writing and self-publishing her first cookbook. Her love of writing led her to create Sense & Edibility®, her “online culinary school,” to encourage advanced and novice cooks alike to explore- and succeed at executing- culinary fundamentals and techniques never before explained to them. Marta melds her multi-cultural- Black and Puerto Rican- background and extensive travel history as a lifetime military family member into creative recipes that inspire others. Many of her recipes and content fuse her two beloved cultures together seamlessly.
Marta Rivera Diaz is the chef and author behind Sense and Edibility®, a food site created to teach home cooks everything they need to know about cooking, baking, and cocktail-making. Marta uses her multi-cultural upbringing and experiences traveling the world to bring eclectic and creative recipes to her readers.
Marta earned her Professional Cooking and Pastry degree in Baltimore. Marta’s recipes and photography have been featured in numerous media publications, including The Washington Post, The Feed Feed, The Tamron Hall Show, and Food 52. She works as a freelance food writer, recipe developer, and culinary consultant for Simply Recipes, Grandbaby Cakes, Cuisine Noir, and The Kitchn.
Marta’s efforts and expertise have garnered attention and accolades from organizations such as The Entrepreneurial Spirit Fund by SIA Scotch and The Les Dames d’Escoffier International 2022 Culinary Entrepreneurship Legacy Award. She was an awardee in the Cafe Media 2021 Remarkable Voices Cohort and a James Beard Foundation Awards Judge.
Marta is also a founding member of Eat the Culture. This non-profit organization creates a community-centered safe space for Black culinary creators and entrepreneurs by providing resources to grow their businesses and build a bridge for equity and representation in food media.
